Description Project descriptionWhat are the context and expected impact of the project?Students are first and foremost looking for projects where they can have a positive impact. It can be about expanding our technology portfolio, our product design, our knowledge base, etc... We need to be very clear on our motivations and expectations of the project. Consumer Electronic products have a big impact on the planet and environment: extraction of raw materials, production of electronic components, manufacturing and distribution of products, and e-waste. Less than 20% of products are recycled at the end of life. To address this point Logitech defined sustainability targets to reduce the CO2 impact of their products. It is time to think about designing more environmental friendly products and exploring new green technologies in electronics What is the scope of the project?What activities do you expect or anticipate as part of this project? What are the measures of success for you?Electronics components including integrated circuits (IC), printed circuit boards (PCB), batteries, … are representing a significant portion of the carbon footprint of mice and keyboards. We want to rethink their design and explore green solutions and technologies that will allow to reach our carbon reduction goalsWhat deliverables do you expect?Define what type of deliverable, what form, what level of maturity, how many, etc...?List existing state of the art green electronics solutions Explore and assess progress in development of green electronic components: PCBs, ICs, Batteries,... Review and assess solutions to replace current printed circuit boards with special focus on printed electronics, alternative materials to replace PCBs: membranes, biodegradable substrate, …Propose innovative solutions and evaluate new sustainable technologies or components based on performance, risk, cost, reliability, manufacturabilitySelect more promising technologies for prototyping What capabilities or experience do you require for this project?Passion for environmental protection and sustainabilityKnowledge of electronics and electronic componentsAutonomous, curious, creativeSynthetic approach
